Dear Kindergarten Families, October 6, 2017
This week we had a visit from Bonny White from the UVM extension. She will be visiting our classroom for the next 4 Thursdays to teach us about nutrition and healthy eating choices. This week we all helped make yogurt parfaits with fresh fruit. Yummy!
This week we also had a visit from Four Winds Volunteers, Hannah and Nancy! Once a month they will visit us to perform a puppet show and teach a lesson on a different science topic. This month they taught us about bugs! Thank you Hannah and Nancy for giving us this great experience. We appreciate the time you take out of your schedules to prepare and teach us!
In literacy we read the book Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with Kindergarten by Joseph Slate. Our weekly question was “How Do People in the Community Cooperate?” Students discussed all the different ways people in a community work together. They mentioned mail carriers, doctors, police officers, fire fighters, librarians and teachers!
Other books we read were Office Buckle and Gloria by Peggy Rathmann, Ten Apples Up On Top! By Theo. LeSieg, and Dr. Suess’s A, B, C by Dr. Seuss.
During math we worked on the concept of “one less” and counting down from 10. Students are working hard to understand the difference between “more” and “less.” Students had fun practicing counting down playing the game “wet dog counting.” Ask them to show you how!
This week we started doing some mindfulness activities through a program called GoNoodle. Ask them to show you how they “melt.”
Have a great long weekend!
